Suzanne Fogarty appeared on WPRI Channel 12's The Rhode Show this morning to share thoughts and information about two great Lincoln-hosted events: the So B. It movie premiere on October 13 and the Rhode Island Festival of Children's Books and Authors on October 14.
Fogarty sat down with host Brendan Kirby to discuss the details, the learning opportunities, and the importance of children absorbing literature beginning at a young age.
"Reading is a tremendous tool for understanding a very complicated world. Children’s books can have a profound effect through illustration and through content. They often deliver very wise messages, and as children read them or have books read aloud to them, they internalize that and begin to think about what their own value system is.
It’s a fabulous opportunity for Lincoln to host this premiere. We’re very honored. Heidi, the main character [in So B. It], is a strong resilient girl. The girls and young women at this school are the same, challenging themselves all the time to do better, think bigger, to question norms, and to take what they learn and—it sounds cliched but it’s not—go out their and improve our world."
