Anna Painter Named Save The Bay's Educator of the Year!

Anna Painter, Lincoln's Lower School STEAM teacher, has been named Save the Bay's Educator of the Year! Painter, who helps to helm Lincoln's Save The Bay program, uses the kind of hands-on learning that this partnership offers to bring learning to life.

Throughout the year, you’ll find her K-5 students knee deep in eelgrass, measuring ocean salinity, shaking hands with a spider crab, or spotting a seal off the rocky coast.

"When you see a student make the connection between an experiment or a theory and the real world, you see them light up. You see them shine," said Painter. "We live in Rhode Island. We’re the Ocean State. At Lincoln, we are students and stewards of our environment. Science should be about not just the classroom, but what is all around us."

The Bay Educator of the Year award is presented annually by Save The Bay’s education team to a teacher, principal or other education leader who has demonstrated exemplary environmental leadership for his/her students.

"I can't think of anyone more deserving [than Anna]," said Bridget Kubis Prescott, Save the Bay's Director of Education.

The award will be given at Save the Bay's Annual Meeting/Taste Of The Bay on Thursday June 13 at 5:30 p.m. at the Bay Center in Providence.

Congratulations, Anna!
