A New Seat in the STEAM Lab

Lincoln's Intro to Engineering class took on the challenge of designing and building a fully functional chair—out of cardboard! The students worked through every phase of the design process to create this one-of-a-kind seating option:

1️⃣ Research & Ideation: They explored innovative cardboard furniture designs for inspiration and developed creative ideas.
2️⃣ Sketching & Prototyping: The team tested cardboard connections and refined their ideas with small-scale prototypes.
3️⃣ Parametric Design: Using digital tools, they automated slot and joint generation, ensuring precision and adaptability.
4️⃣ Laser Cutting & Assembly: Smaller panels were lasercut and larger ones cut by hand. The final design came together with careful craftsmanship and slotted together with no glue!

Thanks to their hard work, we now have a sturdy, functional, and uniquely designed chair for the small tables in our STEAM Lab. Amazing job, engineers-in-training!
