Little School has been providing families with hands-on invitations that challenge our youngest learners through play. Scooping, pouring and sorting are some of our students’ favorite activities. The faculty at Little School have provided invitations that incorporate just that—from carefully pouring ingredients into a bowl to sorting natural elements from a nature walk. Each week, our Little School faculty create an activity grid with our specialists (music, language, library to name a few!) to keep our littlest learners busy. The weekly grid also includes classroom and student check-ins, live snack times, and silent meeting.

In our early childhood classrooms, students worked on a variety of experiences that incorporated science, literacy, art, and math through open-ended play and the use of materials in unexpected ways. Teachers focused on incorporating nature into their activities, bringing art materials outdoors to create nature soup (buoyancy), natural collages, and observing indoor plants.

In our older classrooms,  students actively explored the world around them. The curriculum was designed to reflect their interests and broaden their experiences. As they asked questions and sought answers, they were encouraged to work on a range of topics, incorporating technologies like book creator, padlet, and other Google classroom resources. The girls used problem-solving skills through engineering design challenges, analyzed issues of social justice, and were independent and flexible learners.

In our Middle School, our students engaged in hands-on activities, visual representations, and problem solving, building on their foundation of knowledge with new concepts. Students learned about the formation and evolution of societies through the lens of ancient civilizations through modern day, answering critical questions, beginning to think like historians, and factoring point of view and bias into interpretations of facts and events. They often worked in conjunction with other subjects to examine topics of human rights, using the guiding question "What can I do?", specifically thinking about how they can improve the quality of life for others in the world. Also, students were asked to reflect not only on how the quarantine impacted their lives, but also how it impacted someone else in their lives, too. Students were encouraged to interview someone outside of either their generation or of their state. 

In addition to continuing with our studies, students were able to select a class on Fridays in our remote learning schedule. The "Curiosity Block" allowed students to explore a topic or activity that inspired them. From baking lace cookies to paper marbling, latin dance to running 'live', students actively engaged with faculty members outside of their every day core courses.

In Upper School, Lincoln's best-in-class learning transitioned from classroom to computer screens, with students and teachers relying on their foundation of critical thinking to guide their academic pursuits. Whether focused on technology, science, performing and visual arts, writing, or world history, Upper Schoolers approached distance learning with creativity and resilience. Teachers embraced new platforms, adjusting curriculum to fit the virtual landscape, and reimagining ways to engage with students and families in meaningful ways. The result: a continually strong program that relied on the power of bold minds in action.

Lincoln's Environmental Action Group's signature program, LEAP (Lincoln Environmental Action Program) Week, wasn't deterred by the pivot to remote learning, putting their signature activism to good use with a series of community challenges. The 10-Minute Play Festival, a collection of student-written and student-directed productions that highlights the school’s writers, directors, actors, and backstage crew, couldn't take place on the stage this year. But the show must go on! Instead, 13 original student plays were performed via Zoom to rave reviews.
