History

The History Department has moved toward a global focus in recent years, recognizing the growing world connections and impacts of the 21st century. We help students to develop a set of higher-level skills that are important both in and out of the history classroom. Courses explore broad themes, punctuated with essential questions, in both American and world history. Electives cover art history and archaeology, race and ethnicity, African studies and the history of democracy. Students develop expository writing ability and intellectual curiosity through critical reading, thinking, and discussion. Geography, current events, and civics are also integrated into history courses. As the world draws closer together through technology and modern transportation, Lincoln students are well informed and ready to meet its challenges through an increased understanding of, and respect for, cultural diversity.
