LincUPtoLearn–Lincoln’s mentoring program that connects current students and alumnae–took place during the first two weeks of April, and last Monday, Kaylee Martin ’19 spent time with Jane Pleskunas Pellegren ’07, the Senior Public Health Epidemiologist at the Rhode Island Department of Children, Youth and Families. She shares her reflections on her LincUPtoLearn visit in this blog post!
Kaylee Martin ’19
During my visit, I learned about epidemiology, specifically in the context of the DCYF. I shadowed Jane Pellegren, and she showed me around the building and told me a little about the work that the DCYF does and about her specific work as an epidemiologist. I ate lunch and spoke with Jane and her colleagues, so I was able to learn about their roles at the DCYF. I then had the opportunity to sit in on one of their monthly meetings, and I was able to experience the conversation and presentations that are done in work meetings. I was surprised by how ready people were to add valuable information in meetings, and I liked to see how people were able to work together in a real-life situation. I greatly appreciated the opportunity to visit with Jane and meet all of her colleagues, and I value the experience and knowledge that I gained during my time with Jane.
Stay tuned here for more reflections on our final week of LincUPtoLearn visits!
