Anita Thompson ’89, Lincoln’s Visual Arts department head, has been named the Outstanding Rhode Island Art Educator of the Year by the Rhode Island Art Education Association! Anita, who has been head of the department for 12 years, was moved and honored by this news.
“My whole career has been dedicated to the arts, and I try to infuse the value of creativity into everything that I teach,” said Anita. “I could not be happier to be recognized for doing a job I love so much.”
Nominated as the Rhode Island Secondary Art Educator of the Year by Dr. Cheryl Williams, the head of Arts Education at Rhode Island College, Anita will be honored at a ceremony on November 8 at 6:30 p.m. on the Rhode Island College campus.
Lincoln students decided to get a jump on the official ceremony by surprising Anita with a celebration of their own earlier this week!
The Mission Statement of the Rhode Island Art Education Association is to offer opportunities for professional development, leadership, and service in order to advance the quality of art education throughout the state.
Congratulations to Anita, and thank you for your dedication to Lincoln School artists past, present, and future!
