A Hip-Hop Approach to the French Language: Lincoln Students See Webster in Concert

By Carole Figuet, World Language Department faculty

On Thursday, November 8, Upper School French students (Level 3 and above) had the unique opportunity to attend the only Rhode Island performance of Senegalese-Quebecois rapper and hip-hop artist Webster during his East Coast tour. The concert, held at East Greenwich High School, gathered more than 400 students from around Rhode Island.

Students sang and danced along with the rapper, who has traveled the world to present workshops and demonstrate the creative ways he uses French in his music, and some even went on stage with him for the grand finale! Students enjoyed the music but also the messages Webster conveys through his lyrics and his interactions with the audience–dream but fight for your goals, peace, and diversity above all.

His energy was very contagious as he brought the audience up on their feet together, as seen in the clip below!
