Division Director Welcome

An inclusive environment where academic growth is nourished.

I am thrilled that you are exploring Middle School at Lincoln!

We specialize in putting girls first and we see firsthand the difference it makes to encourage our Middle Schoolers to explore, embrace challenges, and dig into discovering both who they are as learners and as people. I think what sets Lincoln apart is–well–everything! Our teachers are fantastic, our programming is innovative and expansive, and the strong collaboration between students and teachers allow for students to grow and develop as confident, joyful, and curious learners and people.

We believe in the power of girls and know that Middle School is a wonderful time for them to stretch their thinking, embrace their inherent sense of wonder, expand their willingness to try new things, and learn more about themselves and the world around them. We encourage girls to be their authentic selves and we create an inclusive environment where academic growth is nourished. A girl in our Middle School discovers her strengths and expresses her voice while respecting the perspectives and contributions of others, as we practice living our Quaker values day to day.

Our program is one of emerging independence, daily exploration, and deliberate joy in learning. Our teachers deeply understand the Middle School girl experience and they design innovative, challenging, student-centered programming and collaborate with each other with real authenticity, putting girls at the center of everything we do. Whether setting up an evidence-based lab with a partner, writing, producing, and recording a podcast, or delving into a design thinking challenge, trying to solve complex real world problems, students are both involved in our planning and at the heart of our planning. In addition to our core curriculum, Middle School girls select electives classes each semester and learn that they have agency in their educational journey.

Middle School girls learn best when they feel a sense of belonging and connection with their peers, their teachers, and their school. As Lisa Damour, author of Untangled and The Emotional Lives of Teenagers: Raising Connected, Capable, and Compassionate Adolescents writes, “Adolescence is a demanding developmental stage. One of the best gifts you can give a teen is to be a steady presence and lead with curiosity and empathy.”

We cannot wait to introduce you to the magic that is our Middle School—our students, our teachers, our program. Please come visit and see us in action!

I look forward to meeting you soon!
