Where Curiosity Takes Off!

Middle School at Lincoln is where curiosity takes off. Across classrooms, labs, studios, and fields, students ask big questions, test ideas, and grow into confident, independent thinkers. Learning is active and collaborative. From solving complex math problems to hands-on science and dynamic language experiences, they are building the skills that matter most: confidence, resilience, and self-advocacy.

Our program is one of emerging independence, daily exploration, and deliberate joy in learning. Our teachers deeply understand the Middle School girl experience and they design innovative, challenging, student-centered programming and collaborate with real authenticity, putting girls at the center of everything we do. Whether setting up an evidence-based lab with a partner, writing, producing, and recording a podcast, or delving into a design thinking challenge, trying to solve complex real world problems, students are both involved in our planning and at the heart of our planning.

Glance into the Algebra classroom and you’ll see students working together to solve complex equations. Enter a science class and you might find students down on the floor testing out the cars they built learning the laws of physics. Stop by the meeting room to watch girls speak in Spanish together and learn Salsa dance from their teacher. As they study and explore, our students develop confidence and self-advocacy skills that will serve them in Upper School and beyond.

Meet Debbie Hanney, Middle School Director

Middle School girls learn best when they feel a sense of belonging and connection with their peers, their teachers, and their school. As Lisa Damour, author of Untangled and The Emotional Lives of Teenagers: Raising Connected, Capable, and Compassionate Adolescents writes, “Adolescence is a demanding developmental stage. One of the best gifts you can give a teen is to be a steady presence and lead with curiosity and empathy.”

Lincoln Libraries

Lincoln’s libraries provide a diverse array of print and online resources to facilitate and extend learning, support and enrich the curriculum, and meet students’ individual reading and learning needs. Our libraries are inviting spaces for the Lincoln community to gather, learn, reflect, and explore. And our professional librarians curate collections and design instruction programs to stimulate inquiry and creativity at all levels.

Lincoln School students develop a lifelong enthusiasm for reading and learn to think critically about information in a variety of forms. The library team is uniquely qualified to contribute to Lincoln’s educational initiatives as teachers, instructional partners, and information specialists. Lincoln houses two libraries, the Lower School Library and the Elwood E. Leonard Library.

Library Resources

Academic Support

Academic Support is available to all Lower, Middle, and Upper School students. The goal is to develop a plan that enables each student to reach their learning potential in a supportive and empowering environment. We believe academic support should be a team effort between the Learning Skills Specialist, teachers, and advisors to help students develop the strategies they need to become independent learners. The Learning Skills Specialist works in concert with classroom teachers and parents to monitor students' progress, work on organizational skills, modify study strategies, set goals, and make additional recommendations when appropriate.

Lunch Program

Lincoln is pleased to partner with FLIK Dining Services to serve fresh, healthy meals on campus. FLIK focuses on fresh, from scratch foods, while striving to make decisions that are environmentally and economically sustainable. As a company, they are dedicated to “creating memorable dining experiences that nourish our community and elevate campus life.”

Lunch is included in tuition.
Daily meals include vegetarian and gluten-free options, hormone-free milk, salad bar, and soup.

Our Dining Room is a warm, open space designed to function both as a welcoming dining area for all three divisions and a multi-purpose meeting room.

Transportation

Students attending Lincoln reside in dozens of cities and towns in Rhode Island and Massachusetts. Families who live in participating towns and cities may want to consider transportation opportunities available through state-sponsored busing.

If none of these options fit your family’s schedule, many Lincoln families arrange carpools throughout the year. Through the online Parent Portal, families can identify other families in the Student Directory who live in their geographic area, and are encouraged to connect to organize transportation.
