Lincoln School, founded in 1884, is an independent K-12 Quaker girls’ school in Providence, Rhode Island. We also offer a coed program from six weeks through Pre-Kindergarten. We are currently seeking a full-time, temporary ten (10)-week Lower School Learning Skills Specialist beginning September 2026. The Learning Skills Specialist is a member of the teaching faculty and works closely with the Division Director, Math Specialist, Lower School Counselor, Director of Counseling & Wellness, and faculty to monitor the academic progress of all students and provide whole class, small groups, and 1:1 direct instruction. The overall goal of the Learning Skills Specialist is to promote student learning in reading, writing, executive functioning, and sensory regulation as well as to provide coaching and consultation to classroom teachers.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
● Support students in a variety of ways, in both push-in and pull-out models, through direct instruction, for acceleration, remediation, and general instruction
● Model, coach, and support teachers in the implementation of differentiated instructional practices
● Facilitate and participate in regular, collaborative instructional planning time
● Seek instructional materials and resources that support the curriculum
● Assist in the overall evaluation of the language arts program, including interpreting and presenting assessment data
● Coordinate referrals for outside evaluations, and interpret reports and results from outside evaluation professionals
● Collaborate with faculty, families, and outside providers to ensure comprehensive support to students with learning differences
● Coordinate with and support external tutors and service providers (e.g., OT and SLP)
● Lead and participate in student update meetings and parent conferences
● Develop partnerships with students, families, and the school, including collaboration with the Admission team
● Lead high-quality professional development for faculty and parents that address language arts content, best practices, assessment strategies, data analysis, and/or trends in education
● Create a joyful and respectful environment that celebrates the uniqueness, perspective, and cultural backgrounds of each individual and that is actively anti-racist
● Actively participate in staff meetings, committee work, and school events
● Demonstrate a commitment to continuous professional growth
Qualifications:
Applicants should have exemplary pedagogical skills, a passion for teaching and learning from young people, a commitment to fostering antiracist learning spaces, and a love for working with young people in all facets of their school experience. In addition, they should have a desire to work collaboratively with families and faculty while providing resources and training to educate and support all in meeting the needs of diverse learners. ● A passion for teaching and learning and an understanding of and appreciation for the developmental range of the age group
● Deep and broad understanding of reading and writing content, executive function, sensory regulation, instructional strategies, and a strong belief in the growth mindset of all students
● Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills
● Experience administering and/or interpreting neuropsychological testing
● Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize multiple tasks
● Excellent verbal and written communication skills
● A commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusivity
● Experience with educational assistive technology and Google Workspace
● Strong work ethic and a collegial spirit

Education and/or Experience:
● A Master’s degree in Special Education and/or Literacy, preferred
● Five (5) years of experience teaching as an elementary school teacher, special educator, and/or literacy specialist
● Orton-Gillingham and/or Wilson training preferred
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position does not supervise any other employees at Lincoln School.
