Light Up Lincoln! The 125th Birthday Bash
“My wish is for Lincoln to stay the amazing
school it is and keep teaching girls of all ages to follow their dreams.”
“Happy 125th
Birthday, Lincoln School! You don’t look
a day over 80!”
“I wish that Lincoln
School will never change! Thanks for
always being there for me, Lincoln!”
“Happy Birthday,
Lincoln School! I hope the party is
amazing!”
Those are just a few of the hundreds of wishes made by
Lincoln students, faculty, staff, parents and friends in honor of the School’s
125th anniversary, which was celebrated on April 17, 2010, at Light Up Lincoln! The 125th
Birthday Bash.
At least one of those wishes has already come true—the party
was amazing! Over 275 guests gathered at
the Rhode Island Country Club in Barrington, RI, on Saturday night in honor of
the School’s milestone year. The
festivities included a silent auction packed with great deals and amazing
offerings as well as a live auction that included—among many exciting items—a
trip to NYC to hobnob with celebrity Chloe Sevigny, a chance to root for your
favorite New England team with Patriots and Red Sox tickets, and a bowling
party with Lower School teachers Doro Hallan and Alyssa Anderson. The
Bash was a blast—and we are thrilled to report it raised over $75,000 (net
proceeds) in support of need-based scholarships at Lincoln. This is an all-time high for the event, which
has grown every year for the past 6 years.
Julia Russell Eells, Head of School, said, “I believe that a
Lincoln education should be accessible to the families of as many young women
as possible—regardless of their financial situations. A strong financial aid program makes it
possible for Lincoln to attract students of great promise who enrich and
diversify our learning community.”
The need to expand our financial aid offerings is being felt
more poignantly now than ever before. With
over one third of Lincoln families receiving some form of tuition assistance
this year—totaling more than $1.7 million in awarded scholarships—this is a
critical time for members of the Lincoln community to come together in support
of this program.
That is just what they did on Saturday night! We want to thank everyone who participated in
the Birthday Bash, from our sponsors, to our auction donors, to our committee
members, and to every guest—you all helped to Light Up Lincoln!
