The course, College Algebra, is focused on helping students to enhance and further develop their algebra skills in order to continue on to a higher level of mathematics. A review of Algebra II and the introduction of new concepts will take place, for example, the study of conic sections and trigonometric functions. A great deal of emphasis will be placed on mathematical modeling, reasoning and sense making. It will be expected that students draw on their inventory of skills and use critical thinking skills to solve a problem. Graphing calculators will be used throughout the course to verify student results. Students will be expected to work individually and in cooperative groups on assessments and projects. They will also be expected to demonstrate their learning by communicating in a variety of methods, including writing in their journals.
