Students will be building a strong understanding of the basics of Music Theory, and participate in a performing Handchime ensemble. By having the applied instruments in class with us, our theory work will be enhanced by physicalizing what we are learning. Conversely, the theory we learn will enable students to read music, and speed their progress as an ensemble.
We begin with note names and simple rhythm understanding, and will progress to Tetrachords, Key Signatures, Intervals, more sophisticated rhythms, and simple Triads.
The handchime music will begin with simple chordal tunes, and progress thru to polyphonic pieces with more complex rhythms. Students will begin with two notes, and learn how to deal with accidentals and more than two chimes.
