Lincoln School Announces New Head of School
March 28, 2013
Dear Members of the Lincoln School Community,
On behalf of the Board of Trustees and the Head of School Search Committee, we are very pleased and honored to announce the appointment of Suzanne Fogarty as the 16th Head of Lincoln School, effective July 1, 2014. As this appointment does not begin until July 2014, we are also delighted to announce that Ann Sullivan, currently Head of School at School of the Holy Child (Rye, NY) and former teacher and administrator at Friends Seminary, will serve as Interim Head of School, effective July 1, 2013 to June 30, 2014.
The Search Committee, with extensive input from the Lincoln community, identified the qualities Lincoln was seeking in the next Head of School: a leader with visionary programmatic experience, energy and a spirit aligned with the school’s mission; an experienced administrator who fosters excellence and engagement within the school community; an excellent communicator to develop relationships and promote Lincoln both internally and externally; a person with experience and dedication to grow the resources of our school; and at the core, an educator who loves to help young women grow and succeed.
In our judgment Suzanne Fogarty embodies all these qualities and more. In her present role as Upper School Director at the Berkeley Carroll School as well as her time as a faculty member at St. Ann’s, and The Brearley School, Suzanne has proven her leadership capabilities particularly in the realm of academic and curricular development. In 2012, the Berkeley Carroll School was selected as a “School of the Future” at the NAIS (National Association of Independent Schools) Conference in Seattle. Suzanne is currently working on some key curricular projects at the Berkeley Carroll School that precludes her availability to July 1, 2014.
Current and former colleagues resoundingly endorsed Suzanne’s ability to build authentic, warm relationships with everyone, as well as her passion for finding and eliciting the best in adults and young people. Feedback from the Lincoln community recognized Suzanne’s energy, passion and approachable style and praised her ability to strike just the right balance between the internal and external needs of Lincoln today.
As we anticipate an exciting future ahead under Suzanne’s guidance, we also look forward to thanking and celebrating Julia and John Eells for eight transformative years at Lincoln School. Thanks to Julia’s legacy, a palpable sense of excitement and energy surrounds our academic community – an optimism that has enabled us to recruit an exceptionally talented leader in Suzanne Fogarty.
Both Suzanne and Ann will be on campus this spring to meet with faculty, staff, students, parents and trustees as they work together toward an exciting future for the school. We are eager to introduce them to you.
“I am honored and excited to join the Lincoln School community. My visits in February and March confirmed what I already knew about the school: Lincoln is a very special place. I look forward to building on the strong foundation that Julia Eells has established in her tenure as Head of School. In the interim, I look forward to working with Ann Sullivan to ensure a smooth transition to the headship in July 2014.”
– Suzanne Fogarty
“It is a great honor to serve Lincoln School as its interim Head in the transition between two powerful women, Julia Eells and Suzanne Fogarty. I could not be more enthusiastic about continuing to teach great girls and lead committed teachers and administrators. Lincoln School brings together my almost forty years in Quaker and all-girls schools. I know I will bring all my experiences to this new role.”
– Ann Sullivan
Please join us in welcoming Suzanne and Ann to Lincoln School!
