Performing Arts

Lincoln School students gain confidence performing on stage and in concerts from an early age, whether in the classroom, or as part of a larger performance group. Performing arts, music and drama are required courses in the Lower, Middle, and Upper Schools. Additionally, each division offers students several opportunities during the school year to create serious, fun, or whacky dramas; students are involved in acting, writing, casting, costumes, choreography and staging shows like Alice Through the Looking Glass, Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird, and Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream and Taming of the Shrew. Musicals are also produced annually in Upper School, with the most recent ones being Once Upon A Mattress, The Fantasticks, Oliver and an original 1940's musical radio play, A Wing And a Prayer.

Lincoln has many opportunities for students to perform musically. The Lower school chorus is made up of 3rd, 4th and 5th graders, in Middle School there is a 6th grade chorus and a 7th and 8th grade ensemble, and many Upper School students sing in a Vocal Ensemble which performs a wide variety of contemporary and classical music throughout the year on campus and in the community. Lincoln's music history includes the traditional "Lambrequins," a distinguished vocal group drawn by audition from the Ensemble. Lambrequins perform a challenging repertoire of music from all periods in music history. Our instrumentalists have the opportunity to take Chamber Ensemble, where they are challenged to perform a variety of music with each other as well as performing with our vocal ensembles. Lincoln's performing arts offerings also include two theatre classes, and our much loved Whitechapel English Handbells.
