Music Lessons End
Friday, June 6, 2014
The Music Lessons Program cancellation policy allows for one lesson per trimester to be rescheduled, if canceled by the family for reason of illness or doctor's appointment. In order for the lesson to be eligible for rescheduling, the family must contact the instructor directly and before the lesson was originally scheduled to occur. Please note that instructors do not have daily access to the school's records of student absences, so it is necessary to contact the instructor directly if a student is absent from school on a lesson day.
If a lesson is rescheduled for any reason, once that time has been agreed upon by the teacher and family, that becomes an official lesson time and is subject to the usual cancellation policy.
If you know of one or more upcoming absences before the trimester begins, please notify your child's instructor so that fees can be prorated accordingly.
Any lesson canceled by the teacher or missed because of school closings or major school events will be made up at a mutually agreed-upon time. Usually, there will be additional weeks in the trimester available for these lessons.
Rentals are offered through Robert's Musical Instruments (woodwind and brass instruments), McCarten Violins (orchestra string instruments), Johnson Strings (orchestral strings and guitar), and the Harp Connection. Please contact the applicable company for more information.
A rental afternoon for string instruments will take place in September, most likely on Friday, September 13, from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. in the Middle School Meeting Room. Representatives from instrument rental companies will be available to answer questions, deliver instruments and fill out contracts.
If you are studying guitar and need an instrument, please contact Ms. Taylor for advice on picking the right model.
If your student is taking piano lessons and you do not already have a piano at home, you can begin by using an electronic keyboard and/or having her practice on a piano at school (if she has free time when the pianos are not in use). Avery Piano Company in downtown Providence offers pianos for rent or purchase, and the Salvation Army store on Pitman St. (near Eastside Marketplace) sometimes has upright pianos in good condition for sale at low prices.
Current Lincoln School students and their siblings, grades Kindegarten and older, are welcome to enroll in the lessons program. Some instruments require a greater minimum age; contact the Program Coordinator for more information.
Flute, oboe, clarinet, saxophone, bassoon, horn, trumpet, trombone, euphonium, tuba, violin, viola, cello, string bass, harp, drums/percussion, guitar, bass guitar, piano, and voice. Don't see the instrument you'd like on this list? Let us know, and we'll do our best to find a teacher for you!
We are honored to have a full complement of experienced professionals, from Lincoln School faculty and from the surrounding community, engaged to teach in our After-School Music Lessons Program. Please see the Instructors page to learn more about these talented individuals.
Due to the challenges of scheduling all students for lessons on their requested instruments, please understand that we are not able to honor requests for specific instructors; however, returning students will continue with the same instructor.
Scheduling and Locations
Lessons take place weekly throughout the 2013-2014 school year. All lessons take place in Lincoln School's music classrooms and in classrooms of the Lower School building.
To schedule lessons, families should fill out the registration form. The program coordinator will then forward the provided contact information to an appropriate instructor, who will be in touch about setting up a lesson time.
Each student will have a regular lesson time each week on a weekday afternoon between the hours of 3:15-5:45pm. (Some teachers may begin lessons as early as 3:00 p.m., depending on classroom availability.) Lessons last 30, 45 or 60 minutes. It is generally recommended that beginning students enroll for 30-minute lessons; your child's instructor can offer further guidance about the lesson length that will be most beneficial for her musical development.
Please carefully read the cancellation policy, above, for important information about missed lessons.
Most students who have taken lessons during Fall Trimester will continue with the same lesson schedule for Winter and Spring Trimesters. Please discuss any changes with your student's instructor.
Our first priority is to find a possible lesson time for every student. We appreciate your understanding that, due to the variety of individual schedules involved, we are not able to honor special requests for preferred lesson times.
If you have any further questions about this program, please contact Matt Knippel at email@example.com.
