Dear Future Fifth Grader,
Summer is almost here and I’m already looking forward to the 2012 - 2013 school year. Your summer homework is:
- Read both The Great Wall of Lucy Wu by Wendy Wan Long Shang and When Life Gives you O.J. by Erica S. Perl and complete a Rooster Game card for each. The layout for the cards is explained here.
- Send a postcard to me telling a little bit about you. You should also write at least one thing you’ve done over the summer on the card.
You can send your completed Rooster Game cards and postcard to:

Your postcard and Rooster Game cards should be sent by August 25th.
You are not required to purchase the two summer reading books. We encourage you to share with a friend or take the books out from your local library.
You may wish to read more than the two assigned Rooster Game books over the summer. Click here for a list of 2012 – 2013 Rooster Game books. I ask that you not read Inside Out and Back Again by Thanhha Lai and Because of Mr. Terupt by Rob Buyea. This is so we can enjoy these books as a class during the school year. In addition, please do not read any of the books required for Grade Five before the school year begins.
