Academic Support in Middle School

Faith Pine
Learning Skills Specialist

At Lincoln School the goal for academic support is to develop a plan for each student to enable her to reach her learning potential in a supportive and empowering environment. We believe academic support should be a team effort between the Learning Skills Specialist, teachers and advisors to help students develop the strategies they need to become independent learners. The Learning Skills Specialist works in concert with classroom teachers and parents to monitor students' progress, work on organizational skills, modify study strategies, set goals, and make additional recommendations when appropriate. The students meet with the Learning Skills Specialist 1-3 times per week at no additional cost.

The expectation is that students will engage in applying learned skills to their coursework while in Academic Support and then continue to do so in their classrooms as they become independent learners. The ultimate goal is to teach each student how to become an effective advocate for themselves in order to meet success.

The Learning Skills Specialist also works with students on advancing their strengths. All students at Lincoln are welcome to receive assistance from Academic Support whether or not they have a diagnosed learning difference.
