The Power of One
Stand Up, Leticia Lopes!
Lincoln's Stand Up, Lincoln! honoree for this week has been chosen. In this initiative launched in the spirit of The Power of One—this year's Center of Peace, Equity and Justice through Service theme, we asked for nominations of students, daughters, teachers, colleagues or friends. Our Lincoln community is filled with people who give of themselves both in and out of school. We want to know about significant accomplishments so that we can recognize these achievements.
The letter nominating Leticia is printed below:
|Leticia lost a relative, Henry, to osteosarcoma, the most common form of bone cancer. In memory of Henry and in support of all those still fighting the disease, she planned and hosted a bake sale. In addition to baked goods, she also sold orange (Henry’s team color) and yellow (the official color for bone cancer) pins and pencils. She also handed out round magnets and stickers that read “Together we can make a difference.”
All of the profits were donated to the Team Henry Memorial Fund.
Henry inspired Leticia because "his easy-going attitude, charm and brilliant smile impacted everyone he encountered before passing at the young age of 18. Henry’s positive and humbled outlook on life is something that resonated with me and I’m sure everyone he came across his short time here could not agree more."
