Lincoln School has 6 girls from grade 4 to grade 8 that will be traveling to Lansing Michigan, Wednesday May 24–May 28 to participate in the Odyssey of the Mind World Tournament. Odyssey of the Mind is an international educational program that provides creative problem-solving opportunities for students from kindergarten through college. Team members apply their creativity to solve problems that range from mechanical devices to presenting their own interpretation of literary classics.
The team took home first place in the regional competition in April.
The Lincoln School team, the Golden Minds, chose the technical problem this year and have spent all year engineering an "Odd A Bot." The Odd A Bot must be made out of recyclable materials and function by simple machines such as levers, pulleys, etc. Not only is this the first year Lincoln School is being represented at the World Finals Tournament, it is the first ever Rhode Island team to attend this event.
The Gold Minds will be spending 5 days on Michigan State University's campus, meeting other Odyssey of the Mind teams from across the USA and from around the world. They will present their Odd A Bot to the judges on Friday, May 26 and compete in spontaneous problem solving on Thursday. The rest of the week will be celebrated with NASA classroom activities and Creativity Festival. The girls are ready and excited to represent Lincoln School, proudly wearing their kilts!"
