Amelia Edelsberg '22 can spell! After eight months of preparation and winning the RI State Tournament in March, Amelia and her family traveled to Washington DC for the Scripps National Spelling Bee. Two hundred and ninety-one spellers from across America gathered in DC after having participated in school, local and regional bees with the hope of making to the National Bee. This year marks the 90th anniversary of showcasing the nation's best spellers.
Amelia survived the first two rounds on Wednesday with her friends in Providence cheering her on while watching the live stream in Room 222. After spelling "danseur" correctly she earned a spot in round 3. Unfortunately, she was tripped up by "bonapartism." Amelia was thrilled to make it through the first few rounds of the competition. In her own words; "I worked really hard so I am proud of myself for that. If you work really hard to get something there is a good chance you will get it." Upon returning to Rhode Island, Amelia reflected on her experience: "The National Spelling Bee was such an amazing experience. I met a lot of new people and had so much fun. I worked really hard to prepare, studied a lot and learned so much along the way. Next year, I hope to try again."
Congratulations to Amelia!
