After-School Music Lessons Program

Lincoln hosts a variety of after-school music lesson opportunities throughout the year. Students in Kindergarten - Grade 12 can study instruments, and vocal music from professional faculty.

Rental Instruments

Rentals are offered through Robert's Musical Instruments (woodwind and brass instruments), McCarten Violins (orchestra string instruments), Johnson Strings (orchestral strings and guitar), and the Harp Connection. Please contact the applicable company for more information.

If your student is taking piano lessons and you do not already have a piano at home, you can begin by using an electronic keyboard and/or having her practice on a piano at school (if she has free time when the pianos are not in use). Avery Piano Company in downtown Providence offers pianos for rent or purchase, and the Salvation Army store on Pitman St. (near Eastside Marketplace) sometimes has upright pianos in good condition for sale at low prices.

Instructors

Due to the challenges of scheduling all students for lessons on their requested instruments, please understand that we are not always able to honor requests for specific instructors; however, returning students may continue with the same instructor.

Sheila Zuccarello has been involved with Performing Arts at Lincoln School since 2013. Sheila has taught students throughout the state since earning her Bachelor of Music degree in Performance (Voice) from Rhode Island College. Sheila is a member of Collegium Ancora, Rhode Island's professional chamber choir. In addition to teaching and performing, Sheila serves as Director of Music/Organist at St. Mary of the Bay Church in Warren. Sheila teaches voice and piano lessons.

Joe C. Esposito is a graduate of Berklee College of Music 1983, Joe has been performing and teaching the saxophone, flute and clarinet for many years. He has performed mostly around New England as well as in New York City. Being a free lance musician, he remains versatile in different styles of music such as Jazz, Rhythm & Blues, Classical as well as current music of today. Some of his live musical performances include Tony Bennett, Aretha Franklin, Henry Mancini, Robert Davi, The Temptations, The O’Jays, Johnny Mathis, Bernadette Peters, Frankie Valli, Michael Feinstein, Kristin Chenoweth, Maureen McGovern and Linda Eder. Performances with noteworthy jazz instrumentalists include George Garzone, Herb Pomeroy, Hal Crook, Makoto Ozone, Bobby Shew and Harold Jones. Also, performances with entertainers such as Joan Rivers, Don Rickles, Bob Newhart, Wayne Brady and Kathy Lee Gifford.

Trimester Fees

The standard trimester-long package for 2019-2020 will be 8 lessons. Payment for the full trimester is due at or before the first lesson, and is paid through a secure online service (link to payment will be provided after scheduling first lesson). Students beginning a new instrument or with a new teacher may choose a two-lesson trial period. After the trial, a payment for the remainder of the 6 lessons must be made before the third lesson.

Fees for 8 lessons can be calculated as follows:

30-minute lesson: $32.50 x 8 = $260
60-minute lesson: $60 x 8 = $480

Scheduling and Locations

Lessons take place weekly throughout the 2019-2020 school year. All lessons take place in Lincoln School's music classrooms and in classrooms of the Lower School building.

To schedule lessons, families should fill out the registration form. The program coordinator will then forward the provided contact information to an appropriate instructor, who will be in touch about setting up a lesson time. After your lesson time has been set, you must pay for the lessons through the secure online link provided to you before the lessons begin.

Each student will have a regular lesson time each week on a weekday afternoon beginning between the hours of 3:15–5:30 pm. (Lower School) or 3:20 –6:00 (Middle/Upper School). Lessons last 30 or 60 minutes. It is generally recommended that beginning students enroll for 30-minute lessons; your child's instructor can offer further guidance about the lesson length that will be most beneficial for her musical development. If a Lower School student attends Extended Day before or after a lesson there will be an Extended Day charge of $10.

Most students who have taken lessons during Fall Trimester will continue with the same lesson schedule for Winter and Spring Trimesters. Please discuss any changes with your student's instructor.

Our first priority is to find a possible lesson time for every student. We appreciate your understanding that, due to the variety of individual schedules involved, we are not able to honor special requests for preferred lesson times.
