Fostering Inclusive Communities in Independent Schools

On Monday, March 31, members of Lincoln School’s Faculty and Staff gathered for an in-service day on fostering inclusive communities in independent schools. Over the course of the day, faculty and staff members deconstructed the notion of "Diversity," discussed how we can support positive identity formation for all of our students, and explored ways to synthesize this learning and apply it to our daily experience here at Lincoln.

The full day workshop was facilitated by Derrick Gay, an educational consultant who has worked with a wide range of independent schools in the United States and abroad. Derrick is also currently working with Sterling Clinton-Spellman ’02, Director of the Center for Peace, Equity, & Justice through Service, to establish and support Lincoln's first Cultural Competency Committee. This team is representative of faculty, administration, and staff members and will function as a major vehicle for brainstorming and implementing community-wide initiatives that support our work around inclusivity and cultural competency.
