Breaking Boundaries with the Bard
How Martha Douglas-Osmundson is using Shakespeare to bring down barriers

Can you imagine 200 students from 20 different urban schools in Providence all coming together on one stage to perform a Shakespearian play? “If you can imagine it, you can do it,” says Martha Douglas-Osmundson, Lincoln School English teacher and creator of Shakespeare in the City.

Inspired by a grant-funded trip to the Globe Theater in London in 2008 (possible thanks to a generous gift to support Professional Development Travel for Lincoln faculty), Martha returned home charged with a mission to engage urban youth of all ages and backgrounds with the language of Shakespeare. “The play I saw at the Globe was not like any Shakespeare I had ever seen before – and I’ve seen a lot of Shakespeare!” says Mrs. D-O (as her students call her). She describes a production of Hamlet in which 400 kids – ranging from ages 5 to 18 – joined forces to put on the most exciting, inspiring play she had ever witnessed. Read more...

Providence May Networking Night
Lincoln alumnae from the class of 1975 to 2007 gathered at McBrides Tavern on a beautiful spring evening on May 17th for the third Providence-based networking event of the year hosted by the Alumnae Association.  Lively conversation and laughter were plentiful.  Read more...


Colleen Sweeney to Retire
Colleen Sweeney has decided to retire at the end of this school year.  Colleen has been a member of the Lincoln faculty since 1994 bringing her passion for math and music to our girls and to our community.  Colleen has been a leader in unifying our STEM faculty and programming and in continuing to incorporate technology into the math classrooms.  To read more and share your memories of Mrs. Sweeney click here... 


Working Women and the Wage Gap
In April, the National Partnership for Women & Families released a national study on women and the wage gap.  The study revealed that "nationally, the median pay for a woman working full time, year round is $36,931 per year, while the median yearly par for a man is $47,715...amounting to a yearly gap of $10,784."
