    Issue IV  |  January 2012

Dear Lincoln Alumnae,

Happy 2012!

The Alumnae Board is looking forward to a wonderful year for Lincoln alumnae to reconnect in your hometowns and on the Lincoln campus in Providence and at Faxon Farm.  I hope you enjoy this issue of the Green & White highlighting upcoming events, Alumnae & Reunion Weekend 2012, the Faxon Farm Renovation, and athletics at Lincoln today.

As you are filling in dates for 2012, please take a moment to check out the Lincoln Alumnae Calendar of Events and save the dates! In addition, I would like to send out a special call to alumnae in classes ending in 2s and 7s to save the date for the 2012 Alumnae and Reunion Weekend, which will take place on Friday, October 12 and Saturday, October 13, 2012.

As a reunion chair myself, I am looking forward to working with this year’s Reunion Committee to organize a series of events for everyone to enjoy. I would like to extend a special thanks to the 2012 Reunion Committee for their leadership and support. If you are celebrating your reunion this year, please share your ideas and thoughts to help with our planning.

We are also seeking nominations for the 2012 Alumnae Awards that will be presented at the Alumnae Luncheon on Friday, October 12. For more information about the Awards and past recipients, please click here.

I would like to close by thanking all of our alumnae who have made a gift to the Annual Fund this school year.  I look forward to seeing record alumnae participation, and many thanks to Erin Gilliat '92 for serving as the Alumnae Co-Chair for the 2011-12 Annual Fund.

See you soon.

What's New at Faxon Farm?
A video from our student athletes and their coaches
If you haven't been to Faxon Farm lately, or if you've never been, you'll be amazed by all the improvements. In 2008, Lincoln launched one of the most ambitious capital renovation projects in the School’s history to create premier facilities for girls at Faxon Farm and to renovate the historic buildings on this campus for the benefit of the entire Lincoln community.  Read more...

My Life as  Lincoln Athelete and Beyond
By Martha Boss Bennett '85
I arrived at Lincoln in the fall of 1981 as a freshman, loving field hockey, enjoying basketball, and having little idea what to do with a lacrosse stick, but eager to learn. My sisters Robin, and eventually Allie, were taking the tennis world by the tail, but I truly preferred having a team at my back, as there was always someone there for you if you happened to make a mistake (or blame as the case may be). The Way We Were - How Far We Have Come:
A History of Athletics at Lincoln School

By Ronnie McFarland, Director of Athletics

In 1885, long before Title IX mandated equal athletic opportunities for young women, Lincoln School recognized the importance of athletics and instituted organized competitions for its students. Although the programs were far from the organizational complexity and competitive intensity seen at the games today, the spirit of competition and the educational value of physical fitness has always been the bedrock of our foundation. Is It OK to Sing at Silent Meeting?
By Julia Russell Eells, Head of School

In December, we experienced a Silent Meeting in the Upper School that sparked a bit of healthy controversy among the student and adult community. It was the day after Morgan Stone Day, a daylong symposium of speakers and workshops focusing on diversity and globalization. As is customary in our unprogrammed Upper School Silent Meeting, we entered the Music Center in silence and centered down and into a number of minutes of silent reflection. Read more...

Annual Fund Thank You
By Joyce Botelho P'15, Assistant Director of Development and Alumnae Relations

As we begin the new year, we would like to extend a warm and heartfelt thank you to all the members of the Lincoln alumnae community who have supported the 2011-2012 Annual Fund. We had a strong response to our end-of-the calendar year outreach with Annual Fund gifts now totaling more than $441,000 and will share a more detail report in February. Your generosity is greatly appreciated and is making a difference for students and faculty at Lincoln each and every day. If you have not made your gift to the Annual Fund, please take a moment to consider making your contribution to Lincoln today. Every gift counts in keeping us moving forward in reaching our goal of $660,000 by June 30! Click here to give.
