Trustee Leadership Award

Description of the Award

The Trustee Leadership Award is a merit-based scholarship for students entering Grade 6 and Grade 9 at Lincoln.

This award recognizes outstanding students who have demonstrated strong academic achievement and leadership promise. As a merit scholarship, this award is made without consideration of the student's financial need. Students entering Grade 6 and Grade 9, with or without financial need, are eligible to apply. The award is open to current Lincoln School students as well as to students applying for admission to Grades 6 and 9.

The Trustee Leadership award of $15,000 is offered to (2) students entering Grade 6 and (2) students entering Grade 9. The merit scholarships are renewable annually in the same amount of $15,000, as long as the student remains in good academic standing and demonstrates good citizenship and involvement in the life and activities of the school. Grade 6 awards are renewable for Grades 7 and 8. Grade 9 awards are renewable for Grades 10, 11, and 12.

Application Requirements

All Grade 6 and Grade 9 applicants must complete the standard admission application requirements, including taking the SSAT, and writing a short essay on the subject of leadership. SSAT test scores should be in the 90th percentile or above.

Current Lincoln School students entering Grade 6 and Grade 9 are not required to re-apply for admission, however must submit their SSAT scores and leadership essay. SSAT test scores should be in the 90th percentile or above.

To be considered for this award, required materials must be received no later than February 15, 2018.. Please submit all required materials to admission@lincolnschool.org.

Applicants are strongly encouraged to take either a December 2017 or January 2018 SSAT to meet the deadline. The SSAT can be taken at any location, however please enter Lincoln’s SSAT code of 4642 to ensure scores are provided to Lincoln School.

Leadership Essay Prompts (choose one)

  1. Service plays an important role in Quaker education. In your own words, give an example of how you have shown leadership by demonstrating tremendous compassion and caring in serving your community. (500 words maximum)
    or
  2. Eleanor Roosevelt once said, "We gain strength, and courage, and confidence by each experience in which we really stop to look fear in the face... We must do that which we think we cannot." Give an example of how you have shown leadership in a time of fear or uncertainty. (500 words maximum)

Selection & Notification

The Admission Committee will consider applications for the Trustee Leadership Award and make recommendations to the Head of School for the final selection.

Award winners will be notified in early March 2018.

To avoid even the appearance of a conflict of interest in merit scholar selection, children of Lincoln School faculty and staff, as well as Trustee family members, are not eligible to apply.
